MAINE Burial Benefits The Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery System consists of three cemeteries. One of which is located in
Caribou and two located in Augusta. Currently the system is undergoing the design process for development of a cemetery in
Springvale. By law, the State of Maine holds title to all grave lots. The State will, without
charge, open and close the grave and furnish perpetual care. Military rank or civilian stature will not be given consideration
in selection or size of individual graves. Consequently, all graves will be equal in size and type. Selection of the lot will
be made by the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery System office in the order that burial requests occur. Eligible dependents

Veterans Dependents Educational Benefits This program is administered by the Bureau of Maine
Veterans Services. Qualifying dependents are eligible for tuition waiver benefits as defined in Title 37B, Chapter 7, Section
505(2) of the State of Maine Statutes. Dependents under this program must attend a State of Maine state-supported postsecondary
vocational school or institution of collegiate grade. Motor Vehicle Related Benefits and Services The following motor vehicle
plates are available through the Division of Motor Vehicles for Maine veterans:

Heart Plate Acquired Brain Injury (fish only)
A complimentary license to fish must be issued to any person with a head injury as defined by Title 22, section 3086.
This complimentary license remains effective for the life of the license holder if the
license is not revoked or suspended. The license can only be obtained from IF&W's main office in Augusta.
Blind (fish only) A
complimentary license to fish must be issued to a resident who is 16 years of age and older and blind. This license remains valid for the life of the license holder, as long as the license holder continues to satisfy
the residency requirements in Title 12, section 10001, subsection 53, and the license is not revoked or suspended. The application must be accompanied by certified evidence that the
applicant is permanently blind. For the purpose of this subsection, "blind" means having visual acuity for distant
vision of 20/200 if the widest diameter of field vision subtends an angle no greater than 20 degrees. The license can only be obtained from IF&W's main office in Augusta.
Disabled Veteran A resident disabled
veteran may obtain a complimentary license to fish, trap, hunt, including archery, muzzleload, bear, migratory bird, pheasant,
spring and fall wild turkey, coyote night hunt, crossbow, one expanded archery antlerless deer permit, and upon meeting the
qualifications, a license to guide. A "resident
disabled veteran" means a person who: (A) is a Maine resident; (B) is a veteran;
and (C) has a service-connected disability evaluated at:
(1)
100%, or (2) is a veteran with a service connected disability evaluated at
70% who has served in a combat zone during any armed conflict in which participants were exposed to war risk hazards. This license(s) remains valid for the life of the license holder, as long as the license holder continues to satisfy
the residency requirements in Title 12, section 10001, subsection 53, and the license is not revoked or suspended. Note: Holders of this
license no longer have to obtain the additional permits each year as they are now included as part of the license. They must
still apply for any lottery permits such as moose and any-deer. The license can only be obtained from IF&W's main office in Augusta.
Mentally Handicapped (fish only) A
complimentary license to fish must be issued to any person with mental retardation, as defined in Title 34-B, section 5001,
subsection 3. The application must be accompanied by certified evidence that the applicant meets
the defined condition. This complimentary license remains effective for the life of the license
holder, if the license is not revoked or suspended. The license can only be obtained from IF&W's main office in Augusta.
Native American A Native American, 10 years of age or older, of the Passamaquoddy Tribe, the Penobscot Nation, the Houlton
Band of Maliseet Indians or the Aroostook Band of Micmacs will be issued a license to fish, trap, hunt, including archery,
muzzleload, bear, migratory bird, pheasant, spring and fall wild turkey, coyote night hunt, crossbow, and one expanded archery
antlerless deer permit that is valid for the life of that Native American without any charge or fee if the Native American
presents a certificate from the respective reservation governor, the Aroostook Micmac Council or "Wesget-Sipu" stating
that the person described is a Native American and a member of that nation, band or tribe. Holders
of this license must still apply for any lottery permits such as moose and any-deer.
Over 70 The complimentary Over 70 license is no longer available, but for a one time fee of $8.00, a Maine resident who is 70 years of age or older
can obtain a license to fish, trap, hunt, and archery. The following permits are included with the hunt and/or archery license:
muzzleload, bear, migratory bird, pheasant, spring and fall wild turkey, coyote night hunt, crossbow, one expanded archery
antlerless deer permit, or renewal of a license to guide. These licenses may be obtained
at any time in the calendar year that person turns 70. The license can be obtained from
IF&W's main office in Augusta or from a local license agent and are valid for the lifetime of the license holder. You
may also print the resident lifetime license application, if you want to obtain the license by mail. Note: Holders of this license no longer have to obtain
the additional permits each year as they are now included as part of the license. They must still apply for any lottery permits
such as moose and any-deer. The trapping license and guide renewals can only be obtained from
IF&W's main office in Augusta. If a person 70 years of age or older has already purchased a lifetime
license before they reached 70 years old, and shows proof of having a previous trapping license or completing a trapper education
course, they may obtain a trapping license at no charge from IF&W's main office in Augusta. Maine residents 70 years of age or older may also renew a guides license at no charge.
The guide renewals may only be obtained from IF&W's main office in Augusta.
Paraplegic A complimentary resident hunting and fishing license
may be issued to a resident who has lost, or who has permanently lost the use of, both lower extremities. This license remains
valid for the life of the license holder, as long as the license holder continues to satisfy the residency requirements in
Title 12, section 10001, subsection 53, and the license is not revoked or suspended. A complimentary
nonresident hunting and fishing license may also be issued to a person from another state who would qualify as described above
as long as the state where the person resides provides a reciprocal privilege for residents of this State. The following states currently have reciprocal privileges (New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut and Massachusetts).
The license(s) can only be obtained from IF&W's main office in Augusta. Maine residents
who have a complimentary paraplegic hunting license or are suffering from the loss of, or the permanent loss of use, of both
lower extremities are also entitled to an any-deer permit in the district of their choice in any part of the State open to
the taking of antlerless deer. They must complete the regular any-deer permit application and send a copy of their complimentary
license or a letter signed by a physician licensed in the State verifying that person’s ambulatory disability along
with the any-deer permit application. Complimentary Military License Veterans
who served overseas under certain conditions may receive a free hunting and fishing license. A license or pass issued in accordance
with this law will be valid for a minimum (may be longer depending on date of issuance) of 12 months from the date of an eligible
veteran’s discharge from active duty. They will also receive free state park passes from the Department of Conservation.Veterans will need a DD Form 214 (discharge certificate) to be eligible
for the program, and they must have an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. They must be
Maine residents who, between October 1, 2001 and January 1, 2010, served a minimum of three months either on an operational
mission for which members of the reserve were ordered to active duty, or during a period of war declared by the Congress or
a period of national emergency declared by the President or the Congress.Veterans who want a hunting license must also provide proof that they previously had a hunting license.
