Adult Fibrosarcoma

A malignant tumor that develops from fibroblasts (cells that produce connective tissue) and tends to occur in soft tissue or in areas surrounding bones. Adult fibrosarcoma tends to affect mainly deep soft tissue, trunk, head, neck and upper arms and legs. Symptoms are determined by the size and location of the tumor. The tumors are usually slow growing and can metastasize.

Symptoms

Sarcomas that involve bone occur with pain and swelling after a long duration of symptoms. Sometimes, they distort the structural integrity of the bone and cause fracture. Lesions involve more than 50 percent of the bone cortex which are larger than 2 cm. Soft tissue sarcomas manifest themselves as painless masses. These masses arise from deep within the muscular fascia and they become extremely large tumors later. Most lesions occur around the knee, in the nearby hip and femur region or in the ear by arm and this is one sign. The area of lesions is tender to touch. Neurologic and vascular changes are the latest findings.
