Military Training I joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1967 at the end of my tenth year in high school, I was 17 years old and had to get my mother to sign for me. I went to Parris Island for my basic training and it was tough. My next duty station was at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. I then went to Vietnam a month after my eighteenth birthday in June of 1968.
