It took a while, but I am receiving 50% now but would rather have higher benefit. I have applied and am still waiting for a response.

Claims

The Atlanta Georgia VA staff isn't helpful when trying to get help with appointment also the coordinator for the caregiver program has been given me the run around for over a year.

Compensation

I had my first operation on service connected disability in 1975 tried to put in a claim at that time but was pretty much ignored. Didn't get compensated till 1998 at 10% had a second operation in 1999 and went to 20% . Didn't receive compensation for p.t.s.d. until 2009 at 30%. I am a Vietnam Airborne Infantry vet.  I have just had a third operation just this July and applied for 10% more was denied and told they reviewed my record's and it looked like ankle improving. I don't understand how can an ankle that is pendind a third operation be improving. Overall the VA has been good to me I understand at this point that their overwhelmed with all the Vets they have now. I just hope the VA will take care of these younger veteran's in a more timely manner than they did the Vietnam Vet.

Filing for Benefits

When a veteran needs to file for benefits, it's not always (if ever) an easy task. For me, it's been a long and drawn out difficult task. When I had requested my "C-File", I had found statements that were never made by me and was just an embellishment of the interviewer. Why did this person distort the truth or was it that this person was just incompetent? Either way, it appeared that this individual has done this before and/or needed to be re-evaluated in her performance on how to accurately reflect a true and unbiased report. I have heard this complaint hundreds of times before from many veterans. It takes so much more time to correct an injustice than to do it right the first time. It's no wonder why the VA stays so backlogged.

Additional Benefits Social Security

Called social security regarding additional benefits because I paid into social security while in the service. Social security said it was invalid.
