VA  Hospitalization- Won't Pay Medical BILL

I'm a 100% SVC Disabled Vet. On March 3, 2013 I had a pulmonary Embolism while in the chapel awaiting Sunday Worship Service @ McGuire VAMC. I was immediately hospitalized and stayed there until March 8, 2013. Upon discharge 03/08/2013, within 4 hours I fell at home and broke my ankle I told the EMT's to take me back to McGuire VAMC and they refused to accept me @ McGuire VAMC due to a lack of bed availability, so I was taken to Chippenham Hospital, civilian hospital. I was treated in the Emergency room and immediately given a room and stayed there until March 15, 2013. There are two bills that the VA claims to have paid, but I also know that Salem VAMC FEE BASIS will not return my calls, won't respond to my letters and even has told Congressman Robert "Bobby" Scott's office lies about paying when authorization was given for treatment. I am still receiving an Ambulance bill as well as another bill that has gone into collections. My credit score was 840 before this happened and now due to nobody [even NBC-12 TV 12 On Your Side] not standing by me MY CREDIT HAS GONE DOWN TO 709.  I am ashamed of how the VA has done me. For a 65 year old man retired from that same VAMC, that went into service on his 17th birthday in '66 and fought in Vietnam '67-'68, This is the thanks that I get. Here's the joke: Believe it or not I represented Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #113 in Dedicating "The Wall" in November 1983. I was even named the First Healthy Hero of McGuire VAMC with a large picture currently on the Wall telling a "MOVE" Weight loss story. The VA has shown me that they really don't care about us.  On Monday, July 28, 2014 I was called by Compensation and Pension and told to be there on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 for an exam. This is absolutely crazy. Since I have told about the picture of me being on the wall they'll probably remove it now.   SHAME ON THE Veterans MEDICAL CENTERS!

Info

My story is short.  Took me a total of 78 days to do everything I had to do to get the VA benefits.  I used my Local VA rep and made sure I kept track of time and dates and made sure he used an information coversheet on all info we sent to the VA.  Requested a Tiger Committee too, that helped in the final decision on their part. It went from Buffalo NY to Bangor Maine.

Compensation Story

It has been a difficult journey trying to manipulate the system. First I had to prove I was in Vietnam, supposedly my records were in the fire in St Louis. I had to prove I had PTSD, diabetics, Agent Orange, Agent White were spread during my tour in Vietnam.  I tried asking for help from my senator, congressman with little and no help. They want your vote, will kiss your ass but when it comes to asking for assistance; talk to my aide and I will get back to you. Yea right.......Going to Texas Veteran Commission is a waste. Listening to other Veterans and what they endured helped me in doing with my appeals and how not to make the same mistakes. Finally I was given the opportunity to see an outside psychologist and sleep doctors. They realized that I did have PTSD and sleep apnea. WOW !!!  somebody finally believed me and submitted their reports.  I am still fighting jungle rot on my feet and other ailments. After 30 years I am making some headway. What disturbs me is seeing all these Iraq and Afghanistan veterans getting help within 3-4 months and getting their claims settled within a short amount of time. They also receive help in getting homes, seeing a psychiatrist. The poor Vietnam Vet got nothing, all we were known as baby killers and fighting a war nobody wanted. Oh well sorry to post my rants but we are getting older and needing more help which is not being given. I did my time without their help so I will continue to survive this mess.
