Question #81

Are vets who served in peacetime entitled to a pension, health care or life insurance?

A1:  Peacetime veterans are not entitled to pension. One of the criteria is that you had to serve at least one day during a period of war. You can possibly be entitled to health care, but the life insurance depends on whether you converted your SGLI when you got out. If you are awarded compensation, then you would be eligible for S-DVI.  (AP)  6/13/2016

A2:  If you are rated with a service connected disability, there is an insurance program you may qualify for.  See you local Veteran Service Officer for details.  (RJ)  6/14/2016

Question #82

I have a claim pending which is in the collecting evidence status. I have sent/uploaded all that the asked for. How do I get a VSO to look at my uploads and have my claim go to the next phase?

A1:  You sign a POA with your VSO, then he/she can access your claims folder.  (PW)  6/11/2016

A2:  That depends on whether the uploads were done through e benefits by the claimant or if they were submitted through the VSO. Most VSO's cannot see information uploaded through e benefits.  (AP)  6/13/2016

A3:  Please keep this in mind.  If you change POAs now, your claim will be pulled and placed back at the bottom of the pile.  (RJ)  6/14/2016
