Question #105

Is there any way that the VA can help me get the hell out of Mexico?

A1:  Not that I am aware of. Go to the American Consulate with your problems.  (JK)  7/25/2016

A2:  The question is why are you trapped in Mexico. The VA does not provide relocation services or funds. (PW)  7/25/2016

A3:   I would like to know the answer also. Of course, I don't live in Mexico, but I would like assistance to move to another state.  (RC)  7/25/2016

Question #106

I am a member of Veterans choice. I recently went to my assigned doctor for a wrist problem. He told me to get an x-ray, so I went to the local hospital and got one. I've been tormented by them ever since demanding $400. Nobody told me I would have to contact VA first. What am I to do?

A1:  I had a similar problem whereas I went to ER for treatment.  Had a very hard time in getting VA to pay since I am 100% vet.  They did finally. Is your doctor a VA doctor?  If he ordered an x-ray, why didn't he schedule this at the VA?  If he told you to go to local hospital, then VA should pay and fight this bill.  But in ER cases, you should always call the triage nurse at VA first, all calls are recorded so they can't lie what has been said.  She says go to local hospital, then you are covered.  (PW)  7/25/2016

A2:  If any work has been done, get copies of the billing and take it or them to the nearest VA Hospital. Ask for the office for billing. Turn your papoers over to them. Are your medical problems service connected?  (JK)  7/25/2016

A3:  For choice to pay it sucks I go see a cardiologist in Kingman AZ and my doctor at the VA clinic must refer it first if not you have to pay.  (LM)  7/25/2016

A4:  Send the hospital bill to the people who assigned you the doctor you see under the Chiice Program.  (PW)  7/25/2016

A5:  You are in a pickle! Let's try to get you out the jar. First step would be visit your local VHA, VA hospital and ask for the patient advocate. Sit down and explain what happened. You was told by your doctor that you needed an x-ray. You was unclear of how the choice program operated. There should be some understanding, and keep your cool. Good luck.  (PW)  7/25/2016

A6:  When you get to the VA make sure that you ask to speak to your Veteran's Advocate.  The ones at the facility I visit are very good at assistance on this.  (CKP)  7/30/2016
